App
One field takes links and searches. Paste, drop or copy a link and it shows what it is — its picture, title and the qualities it comes in. Return downloads it. A link you copied waits there when you come back.
Watch it arrive. Each picture fills in with color as it downloads, its progress drawn in the picture’s own colors. What’s finished becomes a library you can filter and search.
Any page
For a page no extractor knows, open it in Downbit’s browser and play the video. The media it loads — HLS, DASH, MP4, audio — shows up beside it, ready to download. What you sign in to there is used by every download, in the app and the command line.
Engine
One Go binary, written from scratch. No Python, no yt-dlp, no FFmpeg. Files download in ranges over several connections and streams segment by segment; pause, quit, and pick up where it stopped.
Separate video and audio are joined into a standard MP4 by a muxer written in Go, tagged with the title, artist, date, link and artwork that Music, TV and QuickTime show. Live streams record until you stop them.
On the Mac
Command line
The app’s binary is the command line: with arguments it runs a command, without it opens the app. Every command takes --json, so scripts and agents can follow along.
