Limits

What Downbit doesn't do, and what sites sometimes keep it from doing.

DRM

Media protected by DRM — as on Netflix, Disney+ or Spotify — can't be downloaded, by design. Downbit says so rather than failing quietly.

Live streams

Live streams record until you stop them, except those a site sends as DASH.

Sites

  • YouTube asks some networks to sign in to prove they aren't bots, and keeps some videos to its own player; those may fail where others succeed.
  • Vimeo protects most videos with DRM unless you're signed in.
  • Signed out, Instagram gives only the quality of its embedded player.
